Cath was born into Scottish farming stock which possibly explains her devotion to and love of, animals. To progress her other interest, art, she attended art college and concentrated on book illustration and print. After graduating she combined these interests and began sculpting cats, both domestic and wild. Of all the subjects to choose, cats are possibly the most demanding since their form is so difficult to capture - it is grace and movement not hard line. This however was Cath's choice. In this first sculpt Cath has selected the Amur Leopard which is almost extinct, there being only 30 known to exist in the far east of Russia and China. With it's impressive and lengthy tail, it is possibly the most beautiful of the cat family and certainly the most endangered. |
